Remember why you liked comics in the first place?
Our Comics Empower Project continues!
This time, Lea tells his story:
Not all people are lucky enough to know what they want to do with their lives since they were kids.
Some kids will tell you “I want to be a firefighter, I want to be an astronaut, I want to be a ninja”.
But when my mother asked to me, I always answered: I want to draw, I want to make comics. To me, comics are everything.
I have read them since I learned to read, and I draw them since I learnt to draw, even before I knew how to write.
Nowadays I can say with pride and satisfaction that I have become a comic artist ( I even own my little independent comic book publisher, Purple Comics,) and thanks to that, not only do I enjoy living my life but also meeting wonderful people, great authors and colleagues that I can call them friends nowadays.
However, as any comic artist or writer could tell you, making comics is very hard!
You have to sacrifice lots of things, like spending time whit your loved ones, going out every night, or even sometimes you have to tighten your belt, but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world, I mean it.
Comics have taken me out of ugly places many times, to other worlds, inhabited by brave and pure-hearted people.
Many other times comics have taken me to dark places, teaching me a couple of things about the world.
And now, I like thinking that it is me the one who transports the readers to other worlds through my stories.
Comics are amazing, man. I couldn’t be happier for making them.
